SMS TEXT MESSAGE SHORTHAND DICTIONARY

Here are a few of the shorthand acronyms that are often used when sending English language SMS text messages via mobile phones:

@   =   "at"

msg   =   "message"

W   =   "with"

AATB   =   "all the best"

W/O    =    "without"

WKND   =   "weekend"

BCNU   = "I'll be seeing you"

XLNT   =   "excellent"

NO1   =   "no-one"

XOXOX   =    'Hugs and Kisses"

B4   =   "before"

OIC   =   "oh, I see"

PCM   =   "please call me"

CU   =   "see you"

1  =   "one, won"

2   =   "too, to, two"

2day   =   "today"

F2T   =   "free to talk"

RUOK   =   "are you OK/okay"

2MORO   =   "tomorrow"

2NITE   =   "tonight"

GONNA   =   "going to"

SUM1   =   "someone"

4   =   'four, for"

U   =   "you"

GR8   =   "great"

H8   =   "hate"

LUV   =   "love"

UR   =   "you are"

THNQ   =   "thank you"

There are also a number of symbols in use. Here are three examples:

:-)   =   "I'm happy"

:-o   =   "I'm surprised"

:-(   =  "sad face"

Now try and translate these SMS messages into standard English!

1 -     Marek - RUOK?   Hania    -    THNQ, I FEEL GR8.    

2 -     SEND ME A MSG B4 U LEAVE 2MORO.

3 -     PCM 2MORO AT 4.
